I was born, raised and educated in the UK as an electrical engineer. In 1979 I joined BICC (British Insulated Callendars Cables) then the largest cable manufacturer in the world with 55,000 employees. By 1984 I was promoted to country manager for South Africa and was posted here 3 three years. I then decided to remain in SA and took up a senior position with the Control Instruments Group. The following year I bought out my operating division which I ran until 1994. Since then I have started and grown several companies in the engineering fields, some with amazing success and growth. In 1996 I started Quality of Supply Technologies, which grew to R42 million turnover by 2001. I then developed a technical sales training course for sales professionals who sell technical products, which I presented for a few years, and combined this with a 2-year sabbatical. In 2006, out of the blue, an opportunity presented itself in the Smoke & Heat ventilation industry, which I am still involved in now.
